2 I have chosen Tim Burton's 1999 supernatural thriller movie, "Sleep Hollow," to be my final project. It features Johnny Depp as the titular Ichabod Crane. In the film, Crane, a New York police officer/ detective, is sent to investigate the gruesome murders in Sleep Hollow. Each victim was beheaded. Using his new investigative tools, Mr. Crane is confident he can solve the murders. However, after meeting with local authorities, he learns that the killings were carried out by a supernatural being known as the Headless Horsemen. He then uses his methods to find the killer. Young Masbeth, a local boy, aids the crane. Together, they discover an old tree that leads to a secret passageway that allows the Horseman to travel to Sleep Hollow. Upon learning that the Horseman's skull is missing, Crane realizes it has been used to control the creature. He later learns that the entity is controlled by Lady Van Tassel, Katrina's stepmother. Crane saves the Horseman by returning its skull to the creature. Lady Van Tassel then departs with the beast to return to the tree. Upon returning to New York, Crane reunites with Young Masbeth and his friend Katrina (Rudin, & Schroeder, & Burton, 1999). Tim Burton's "Sleepy Hollow" (1999) features three core anthropological concepts. These include ethnocentrism, enculturation, and religion. The film's central character, Crane, quickly judges others and sticks to his convictions. The film illustrates the concept of enculturation by showing Mr. Crane's acceptance of the local's beliefs as he tries to find the murderer. Finally, religion and the system of beliefs are depicted by the local's use of supernatural powers, including the protection of the church.
