Concept Introduction:

Hydrocarbons are the backbones of organic compounds.  Alkanes are compounds that contain only carbon and hydrogen atom and also there are only single bonds between the two carbon atoms.

Concept Introduction:

Organic compounds can be classified by the functional groups that is attached in the compound.  Some of the organic compounds are carboxylic acids, alcohol, haloalkanes, ether, etc.
