Stirred tank reactions For each of the following stirred tank reactions, carry out the following analysis.
- a. Write an initial value problem for the mass of the substance.
- b. Solve the initial value problem.
26. A one-million-liter pond is contaminated by a chemical pollutant with a concentration of 20 g/L. The source of the pollutant is removed, and pure water is allowed to flow into the pond at a rate of 1200 L/hr. Assuming the pond is thoroughly mixed and drained at a rate of 1200 L/hr, how long does it take to reduce the concentration of the solution in the pond to 10% of the initial value?

- A tank contains 1000L of brine with 5kg of dissolved salt. Pure water enters the tank at a rate of 10L/min. The solution is kept thoroughly mixed and drains from the tank at the same rate. Answer the following questions. 1. How much salt is in the tank after t minutes? Answer (in kilograms): S(t) = 2. How much salt is in the tank after 10 minutes? Answer (in kilograms):arrow_forwardA tank initially contains 100 gal of pure water. Starting at t=0, a brine containing 4 Ib of salt per gallon flows into the tank at the rate of 5 gal/min. The mixture is kept uniform by stirring and the well-stirred mixture flows out at a rate of 3 gal/min. a. How much salt is in the tank at the end of 20 minutes? Ib b. When is there 50 lb of salt in the tank? minutes c. How much salt is in the tank at the end of 105 minutes? Ibarrow_forward1. A tank initially holds 100 gallons of brine solution containing 20 lbs. of salt. At t = 0, fresh water is poured into the tank at the rate of 5 gal/min., while the well- stirred mixture leaves the tank at the same rate. Find the amount of salt in the tank at any time t. 2. A tank 100 gallon capacity is initially full of water. Pure water is allowed to run into the tank at a rate of 1 gallon per minute, and at the same time containing one-fourth pound of salt per gallon flows into the tank also at a rate of 1 gallon per minute. The mixture flows out at a rate of 2 gallons per minute (it is assumed that there is perfect mixing). Find the amount of salt in the tank after t minutes. 3. The rate of growth of an investment is proportional to the amount of the investment at any time t. The initial investment is $1000 and after 10 years the balance is $3320.12. What is the particular solution? 4. The limiting capacity of the habitat of wildlife herd is 750. The growth rate dN/dt of the herd…arrow_forward
- 1. A 30 m³ tank is full of brine with 40 kg of dissolved salt. Pure water enters the tank at a rate of 0.5 m/min. The sohution is kept thoroughly mixed and drains from the tank at a rate of 1 m/min How much salt is in the tank when it is 75% full?arrow_forwardI need the answer as soon as possiblearrow_forwardPlease show work. - Perform the required calculations. Required is 500 cc of 4/5 (v/v) strength solution. The usual solution is 3% (v/v) hydrogen peroxide in water. Perform the calculations needed to prepare the solution.arrow_forwardThe volume of a cube decreases at a rate.1 of 15 m/sec. Find the rate at which the side of the cube changes when the side of the .cube is 5 marrow_forwardAnswer the following questions based on the previous examples. Show your work. 1. What is the infusion rate of 1 L (1,000 mL) D5W given over 10 hours? What is the infusion rate of 500 mL of NS administered over 10 hours? 2.arrow_forward
- 8. If a liquid evaporates at a rate of 50 kilograms per minute [kg/min], what is this evaporation rate in units of pounds-mass per second [lb/s]?arrow_forwardAnswer the following as detailed as possible. 2. The tank shown below contains 80 Ibs of salt dissolved in 500 gal of water. The inflow per minute is 20 Ib of salt dissolved in 20 gal of water. The outflow is 20 gal/min of the uniform mixture. Find the time when the salt content y(t) in the tank reaches 95% of its limiting value (as t → o ).arrow_forwardsecond picture is what I got. Please answer the problem below 2. Now that you know m and b, calculate the volume of solution dispensedwhen the valve is open for 55.4 ms. Note you will need to look up thedensity of water!arrow_forward
