The reason of introduction of variation by prophase I and Metaphase I.

Introduction:

Crossing over is an event in which the non sister chromatids exchange the genetic material, also known as shuffling of genetic information. The crossing over occurs in between non sister chromatids in tetrad between prophase I and metaphase I to form recombinant chromosomes.

The tetrad is a group of four chromatids formed from a pair of homologous chromosomes each consist of sister chromatids.
