Please describe a leadership situation you have been in recently, (most preferably within the last 6 months - 1 year). What was the situation, and what was your role in the situation? Where you already the leader or thrust into a situation? What was your style of leadership, and what was the outcome? If you could do the situation over again would you handle it the same way? why/why not? Examples you have previously shared on weekly discussion boards do not count – please use a different example. (some examples can include leadership roles in family life, at work, at school, etc.) And if, unfortunately, you have no leadership situations to share, please explain why you think that is. Specifically, what do you think is holding you back from taking leadership roles? And how do you plan to change that going forward so that you can have more leadership experiences?
This discussion has three parts.
Most people have a blend of leadership styles that they use. Some leaders are more flexible in applying a wide range of leadership styles, whereas others are more consistent and generally use just one or two preferred behaviors. Consider if two strong individuals begin a new company and discuss the following:
If two diverse individuals, each having a different leadership style, were tasked with effectively co-leading an organization, what potential conflicts might occur between these different leadership styles?
How will their personal leadership styles influence the organizational culture?
How would you recommend that these two leaders work together most effectively?
There are five primary types of leadership: Transformational, Authoritarian, Delegative, Transactional, and Participative.
In your initial post:
Explain your leadership style. Which of the five primary types of leadership most closely aligns with your style?
Why did you pick that style?
Why is it the best leadership style for the sector of the economy you choose to work in? (This can either be with your current job or the job you plan to work in after you graduate.)
Should leaders change their leadership style to adapt to different circumstances? Why or why not?
