Concept explainers
The correct option.
Answer to Problem 32R
The correct option is C.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Longitudinal waves are waves in which the particles move along the same direction of the wave propagation.
When a longitudinal wave moves through a medium, the direction in which the matter in the medium moves is along the same direction the wave travel. In a transverse wave the matter moves perpendicular the direction of wave propagation.
Waves move in perpendicular direction when they are transverse, longitudinal waves cannot move in all direction and in circles since the particles will only move along the direction of propagation.
Conclusion:
Therefore, the correct option is C.
