Concept explainers
Can we correctly say that a new source of energy is hydrogen? Why or why not?
To explain: The reason for considering hydrogen as new energy source.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Due to the large consumption of fossil fuel, in several decades, there is large problem arises. Energy from fossil fuel creates lots of toxic gases which is responsible for global warming. There is a finite need to find the energy source which is free from pollution, clean, and easy to produce. Solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy are the examples of the renewable energy sources available. But due to low efficiency, high cost these energy sources have limitations.
Now future is looking for hydrogen as a next generation energy source. Hydrogen is the chemical compound having very low mass. The basic properties of the hydrogen make it more feasible for the next generation energy source. Colorless, odorless, non-toxic, non-corrosive, highly combustible are the some properties of the hydrogen. Hydrogen transforms the fossil fuel based economy into the non-pollutant, clean renewable based energy economy. When fossil fuel used in the internal combustion engine or to produce energy it emits greenhouse gases emission whereas when hydrogen combust with oxygen it emits only water vapors. Energy yield of hydrogen is the 122 kJ/g which is very large as compared to the fossil fuel. Hydrogen is available in nature in various forms. Using the various scientific tool we can extract hydrogen from the available energy sources.
Some advantage of hydrogen energy over other sources of energy are renewable, non-polluting, environment friendly and highly efficient.
Conclusion:
Due to renewable, non-polluting, highly efficient, environment friendly nature of hydrogen fuel, in future hydrogen will be the new source of energy.
