Name the type of equilibrium for each position of the ball.
Solution. The ball in position “A” is in unstable equilibrium, the ball in position “B” is in stable equilibrium and ball in position “C” is in neutral equilibrium.
Explanation of Solution
The ball in position “A” is in unstable equilibrium because a slight fluctuation on the ball causes it not to return to its original position. The ball in position “B” is in stable equilibrium because a slight fluctuation on the ball causes it to return to its original position. The ball in position “C” is in neutral equilibrium because it remains in its new position.
