To determine:
The way in which infant monkeys react when they place into contact with other monkeys.
Concept introduction:
Harry Harlow, a psychologist began to study the development of attachment. He conducted a number of studies of attachment using infant rhesus monkeys. He isolated eight baby rhesus monkeys and placed each in a cage of wood covered with the soft padding, and a wire cage without any padding but provided with the food supply. He termed these cages “surrogate mothers”. The wire surrogate mothers provide the foods for the infants, but infants spend more time with the soft cage cloth covered surrogate. According to the Harlow, this shows the significance of contact comfort in the attachment.
