The experiment involved conditioning wherein a rat was made to fear a tone presented after or simultaneously with a shock. In condition 1, the drug was administered before the shock-tone was presented and found that on the third day of condition 1, the rat did not react with fear to the sound of the tone because the memory was not consolidated due to the presence of drug in the body. In condition 2, the shock-tone was presented before the drug was administered and it was observed that the drug failed to block the memory from becoming consolidated and, thus, the rat reacted with fear to the sound of the tone. In condition 3, the rat was first presented with the tone which reactivated the memory of fear response to shock, and then anisomycin was administered which eliminated the memory of fear as the memory was reactivated and was in a fragile state.
