  • The full form of IP address is “Internet Protocol Address”. It is nothing but numbers assigned to each device that is connected to a computer network which uses “Internet Protocol (IP)” for communication.
  • IP addresses are in human-readable (numeric format) notations.
  • There are two types of Internet Protocol. They are:
    • Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4)
    • Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6)

Domain Names:

  • The name given to the IP address is called as “domain name”. Every domain name is unique and they are text based address.
  • URL contains:
    • A protocol
    • Web server name
    • Domain name
    • Location of the file
  • Example: “http://www.mozilla.com”
    • Here,
      • http – HTTP protocol
      • www – Web server name or host
      • mozilla.com – domain name
    • In “mozilla.com”: “.com” is considered as the top-level domain whereas “Mozilla” is considered as the second-level domain name.
