To determine:

The causes for the mishappening of infant’s skull and the anatomic feature of the neonatal skull that slows it to return to a more rounded shape.

Introduction:

Bones form by either intramembranous ossification within a mesenchyme layer or endochondral ossification from hyaline cartilage models. Most of the bones at the base of the cranium are formed by endochondral ossification. The zygotic bones, the maxillae, and the mandible are formed by intramembranous ossification. These bones become rather well formed by 12-20 weeks of development.
