Concept explainers
A manufacturing process uses 10 pound-mass of plastic resin per hour [lbm/h]. Rather than using a traditional unit system, we wish to use an unusual unit system called the FFF system: furlong-firkin- fortnight. One firkin is equal to 40 kilograms [kg] and one fortnight is 14 days [d]. Convert this processing rate to units of firkin per fortnight.

- A cylindrical pipe with a cross-sectional radius r = 1.40[cm] is plunged into a l = 2.30[m] tall open water drum that is initially completely filled with water (pwater = 1000 [kg/m3]). The pipe goes h1 = 0.35 [m] above the drum before dropping down h2 = 3.50 [m] below the base of the drum as shown. The cross-sectional radius of the top side of the pipe is R = 2.20 [cm].A. How fast is the water going out of this pipe?B. What's the liquid's pressure at the top of the pipe? Assume that the system is exposed to 1.00 [atm] of air pressure.C. What's the maximum height the pipe can go above the drum before the water stops flowing out of the pipe? For liquid flow to be continuous, the liquid’s pressure must not fall before its vapor pressure. Assume that vapor pressure, in this case, is 2.30 [kPa].arrow_forwardA particle is subjected to the action of two forces: F1 = 2.5 i-3j+ 6 k [kN] and F2 = 5 i+6j-5k [kN].
