Given information: 

Following two similar triangles ABC and DEF in which two pairs of corresponding sides are given:

  

Concept used:

In similar triangles, the ratio of corresponding sides is equal always. So, in said given similar triangles,

  $\frac{\text{AB}}{\text{DE}}=\frac{\text{BC}}{\text{EF}}$

Calculation:

Based on above ratio set,

  $\frac{x}{8.5}=\frac{6}{24}$

On cross multiply,

  $x=\frac{6\times 8.5}{24}=\frac{8.5}{4}=2.125$

Based on above concept, the measure of missing side x is 2.125 cm.
