The factors of 2 s − 6 are 2 and s − 3 . The factors of 4 are 2 raised the power 2. The factors of 4 s − 12 are 2 raised the power 2 and s − 3 . Therefore, 2 2 and s − 3 are the factors of the LCD. Thus, the LCD of the denominators of each fractions is the product of 2 2 and s − 3 that is 4 ( s − 3 ) . To make the resulting denominator in each fraction equal to the LCD, multiply and divide the fraction by the proper quantity. s 2 s − 6 + 1 4 − 3 s 4 s − 12 = s 2 ( s − 3 ) ⋅ 1 + 1 4 ⋅ 1 − 3 s 4 ( s − 3 )
