Glucose is stored as glycogen through glycogenesis. It is stored in liver and muscles, so whenever the demand for energy is more, these glycogen is broken down into glucose through a process called glycolysis. But, there are certain instances when the demand for energy is more. In those cases, this energy demand is met by proteins and fats which work as mitochondrial fuel.
