Introduction:
In bones, osteocytes cells derived from osteoblast, are deposited in the matrix of bone. They are present in the small cavities of the matrix called lacunae and are connected to each other through canaliculi.
The functions of osteocytes are:
- To maintain the homeostasis of minerals in bones.
- To act as a strain sensor.
- To secret a hormone called osteocalcin.
- To help in bone remodeling.
