The process that leads to the development of the cranial bones from a flat sheet of condensed mesenchyme.

Introduction:

The skeletal system of the body not only helps in protection of the body and providing shape to the body but also functions as the major system needed for acid base and electrolyte balance. The presence of hematopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow helps in the production of all the blood cell lineages inside the bone. The bones' health thus plays a major part in the functioning of the body. The process by which the bones are developed is known as ossification. The two major methods of ossification are intramembranous and endochondral ossification.
