Hydrocarbons are the organic compounds which contain only carbon and hydrogen atoms.
The general molecular formula for the alkyne is
The IUPAC rules for naming the compound are as follows:
The longest continuous chain is to be selected and then the number of carbon atoms is counted in that chain.
If a substituent is present in the longest chain, then name each substituent according to the number of carbon atoms present in the substituent.
The base chain is to be numbered in such a way that the substituent gets the lowest number.
Finally, the compound’s name is written in such a way that the number of the substituent is followed by a dash, after that the name of the substituent is written and then the base name of the compound.
