The obligate aerobes require oxygen for its growth because this molecule serves as the final acceptor of the electron in the electron transport chain (ETC). Most of the adenosine triphosphate (ATP) molecules are generated in these organisms by the ETC. However, the same oxygen molecule is poisonous for strict or obligate anaerobes.
