In the given case, a high school student is preparing to qualify for high school track meet at the state level. She is going through a strenuous running regimen daily for several hours. She experienced intense pain in her right leg. Upon visiting a doctor, a bone scan of her leg was ordered after finding no external injury. Determine result of the bone scan of Taryn’s leg.
Introduction:
The leg has femur and tibia-fibula bones in the thigh and lower leg regions, respectively. An injury or fracture of these bones affects the strength of the legs and pose a hindrance in performing any task such as walking or running. In this case, the doctor ordered a bone scan rather than an X-ray. An X-ray detects a crack or fracture in the bone, which is more of a superficial nature. A fracture is evident from the intensity of pain and the structure of the concerned body part.

- An 80-year-old grandmother, Tess, while putting dishes up on a shelf, fell off a step stool and was unable to get up. She activated her medical lifeline and the emergency medical team arrived at the scene. They noticed her right leg was abducted and she was complaining of pain in her right leg and hip. Tess was taken to the emergency department, where an X-ray revealed that the neck of her right femur was fractured. Further X-rays revealed a reduced bone mass in her right hip, femur, and vertebrae. Surgery was done to repair the hip. Tess is now recuperating and having physical therapy treatment daily. What is the injury? Which organ and body system(s) is this Name the type of tissue involved in this situation and the cells responsible for healing.
