Introduction:

An element is a substance that cannot be broken down into any other substance. Every element is made up of its own type of atom. For example, oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, etc. A compound is a substance formed when two or more elements are chemically joined. Water, salt, and sugar are examples of compounds.

Explanation of Solution

Elements are pure substances which are consisted of only one type of atom. For example, the element hydrogen is made from atoms containing a single proton and a single electron. Compounds are substances which are formed by two or more different types of elements that are chemically fixed proportions. When the elements are joined, the atoms lose their individual properties and have different properties from the elements they are composed of. Water is a compound formed by two hydrogen atoms bonded with one oxygen atom.

Conclusion

So, in this way we can include that elements are pure substances which are composed of only one type of atom. Compounds are substances which are formed by two or more different types of elements that are united chemically in fixed proportions.
