Dinoflagellates are algal cells that belong to the group Pyrrophyta. The most distinct feature of these organisms is their characteristic red colour. They impart a bright red colour to marine habitats (a phenomenon called red tide) where they thrive and produce toxins that are harmful to marine animals as well as to human that consume infected animals.
