Summary Introduction

Introduction:

The cells of most microscopic fungi grow in loose associations or colonies. The colonies of yeasts have a soft and uniform texture and appearance, while the colonies of filamentous fungi have striking velvety or hairy texture and appearance. The intertwining mass of hyphae that makes the bulk of a filamentous fungal colony is called mycelium. Hyphae may or may not be divided into distinct segments by cross walls called septa.
