Islands can have a huge diversity on them with the progress of time as they are generally new lands for the organisms. The nearest islands have huge species richness value as compared to ones that are away from the mainland, which is native place of species. It depends upon the number of immigrants which balances the extinction and equilibrium species number remains constant.
