Question
Chapter 54.4, Problem 2CC
Summary Introduction
To determine: How species richness is affected by the island size and its distance from the main land.
Concept introduction: Species diversity cab be determined as total number of species present in a community. Islands can have a huge diversity on them with the progress of time as they are generally new lands for the organisms. The nearest islands have huge species richness value as compared to ones that are away from the mainland, which is native place of species. It depends upon the number of immigrants which balances the extinction and equilibrium species number remains constant.
