Summary Introduction

To develop: A hypothesis as to why the pain-sensitive receptor evolved in response to cold.

Introduction: Receptors responsible for pain sensation are present on the skin. These receptors are free nerve endings and are spread all over the outermost layer of the skin. The pain receptors are also cold sensitive and consist of ion channels whose ability to conduct ions increases with cold.
