Explanation of Solution

The volume of the gold is $28.0{\text{cm}}^3$ and the lead is $16.0{\text{cm}}^3$ . The density of the gold is $19.5{\text{g/cm}}^3$ and the density of the lead is $11.3{\text{g/cm}}^3.$

Use the above formula to calculate the mass of the lead.

Substitute $16.0{\text{cm}}^3$ for volume and $11.3{\text{g/cm}}^3.$ for density in the above formula.

  $\begin{array}{c}{\left(\text{mass }\right)}_{\text{lead}}\text{=}16.0{\text{cm}}^3\times 11.3{\text{g/cm}}^3\\ =180.8\text{g}\end{array}$

Similarly, calculate the mass of the gold.
