Interpretation:

In the phase diagram for stainless steel, the composition represented by point c has to be identified.

Concept Introduction:

A simplified phase diagram of stainless steel involves iron, nickel and chromium.  The total number of components is 3.  If two phases are present then the system has one degree of freedom and change in amount of one component leads to the change in amounts of the other two components.  This condition is represented by an area in the phase diagram.  If three phases are present, then the degree of freedom is zero and the system is represented by a point in the phase diagram.
