Introduction:

Plasma is the fluid portion of the blood, in which red blood cells are suspended. Living cells suspended in any interstitial fluid, constantly undergoes osmosis of water but remain the same in size. Osmosis occurs when water is diffused with the fluids across the cell membrane which is selectively permeable. The movement of water occurs from the high water concentration region to the low water concentration region. If the concentration of solute and water molecules is the same, the solution is isotonic, and doesn’t involve any movement of water across the semi-permeable membrane. When a solution with varying concentrations is divided by a semi-permeable membrane, the side with higher concentration is the hypertonic solution and the side which is more diluted is the hypotonic solution.
