Chapter 1, Problem 1FIB
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

The organism is an individual body that shows the properties of life. Organisms are classified into a specific group on the basis of their physical appearances as well as on the function. Some organisms are single-celled and some are a complex multicellular organism. Organisms interact with the environment for their survival. They do adapt new feature for the betterment of their life.

Answer to Problem 1FIB

Correct answer:

Organisms respond to stimuli. Organisms acquire and use energy and materials from the environment. Organisms are composed of cells whose structure is both complex and organized. Collectively, organisms evolve over time.

Explanation of Solution

Organisms are the living creature that will respond to every external stimulus. They are either unicellular or multicellular; generally lower animals like bacteria are unicellular. Humans and animals are multicellular because they have specific cells for a specific function.

Each and every organism required energy and material for their survival from the environment. The environment provides food (energy source) and other abiotic components like oxygen (for breathing) to organisms.

Organisms are evolving over time because of high competition and natural selection. If they will not evolve themselves than they will extinct soon because of a highly evolved organism who will act as a predator for them.

Conclusion

Organisms are the creature that shows properties of life such as evolution, the response to stimuli, interaction with the environment, and different in their structural complexity.

Imagine that you are a clinical geneticist. Your colleague is an oncologist who wants your help explaining the basics of genetics to their patient, who will be undergoing genetic testing in the coming weeks for possible acute myeloid leukemia (AML) induced by the radiation she had several years ago for breast cancer. Write a 1,050- to 1,225-word memo to your colleague. Include the following in your memo: An explanation of the molecular structure of DNA and RNA, highlighting both similarities and differences  A description of the processes of transcription and translation An explanation of the differences between leading and lagging strands and how the DNA is replicated in each strand Reponses to the following common questions patients might ask about this type of genetic testing and genetic disorder: Does AML run in families? What genes are tested for?
Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words: What are some potential consequences that could result if the processes of replication, transcription, and translation don’t function correctly? Provide an example of how you might explain these consequences in terms that patients might understand.
