Summary Introduction
To explain: The toxic effect of oxygen on strict anaerobes.
Introduction: During aerobic respiration, microbes produce hydrogen peroxide and rarely superoxide, which is extremely toxic. If these substances get accumulated, then it may lead to the death of the organism unless these substances are degraded enzymatically. During the aerobic respiratory pathway, these toxic substances are produced by aerobes, facultative anaerobes, and microaerophiles. During this pathway, oxygen is the final electron acceptor. Catalase producing organisms are capable of degrading these toxic substances.
