Distance Calculator
If you know a vehicle’s speed and the amount of time it has traveled, you can calculate the distance it has traveled as follows:
Distance = Speed × Time
For example, if a train travels 40 miles per hour for 3 hours, the distance traveled is 120 miles. Create an application with a form similar to the one shown in Figure 5-51. The user enters a vehicle’s speed and the number of hours traveled into text boxes. When the user clicks the Calculate button, the application should use a loop to display in a list box the distance the vehicle has traveled for each hour of that time period.

- Theater RevenueA movie theater only keeps a percentage of the revenue earned from ticket sales. The remainder goes to the movie company. Create a GUI application that allows the user to enter the following data into text fields: Price per adult ticket Number of adult tickets sold Price per child ticket Number of child tickets soldThe application should calculate and display the following data for one nights box office business at a theater: Gross revenue for adult tickets sold. This is the amount of money taken in for all adult tickets sold. Net revenue for adult tickets sold. This is the amount of money from adult ticket sales left over after the payment to the movie company has been deducted. Gross revenue for child tickets sold. This is the amount of money taken in for all child tickets sold. Net revenue for child tickets sold. This is the amount of money from child ticket sales left over after the payment to the movie company has been deducted. Total gross revenue. Assume the state sales tax is 4 percent and the county sales tax is 2 percent. The program should display the amount of the purchase, the state sales tax, the county sales tax, the total sales tax, and the total of the sale (which is the sum of the amount of purchase plus the total sales tax).arrow_forwardTip, Tax, and Total Create an application that lets the user enter the food charge for a meal at a restaurant. When a button is clicked, the application should calculate and display the amount of a 15 percent tip, 7 percent sales tax, and the total of all three amounts.arrow_forward
- Retail Price Calculator Create an application that lets the user enter an item's wholesale cost and its markup percentage. It should then display the items retail price. For example: If an item's wholesale cost is $5.00 and its markup percentage is 100 percent, then the item's retail price is $10. If an item's wholesale cost is $5.00 and its markup percentage is 50 percent, then the item's retail price is $7.50. The program should have a method named CalculateRetail that receives the wholesale cost and the markup percentage as arguments and returns the retail price of the item. In addition, there should be the name of the Wholesale Company displayed (be creative). If the cost is over $500, display a $20 discount on the retail price. For example: If an item's wholesale cost is $600.00 and its markup percentage is 100 percent, then the item's retail price is $1,180. ( Markup = $600 * 100% = 600 Retail Price = $600 + $600 - $20 (wholesale cost + markup - discount)arrow_forwardCarpet Calculator The Westfield Carpet Company has asked you to write an application that calculates the price of carpeting for rectangular rooms. To calculate the price, you multiply the area of the floor (width times length) by the price per square foot of carpet. For example, the area of floor that is 12 feet long and 10 feet wide is 120 square feet. To cover that floor with carpet that costs $8 per square foot would cost $960. First, you should create a class named RoomDimension that has two fields: one for the length of the room and one for the width. The RoomDimension class should have a method that returns the area of the room. (The area of the room is the room’s length multiplied by the room’s width.) Next you should create a RoomCarpet class that has a RoomDimension object as a field. It should also have a field for the cost of the carpet per square foot. The RoomCarpet class should have a method that returns the total cost of the carpet. The formula for calculating the miles that a car can travel per gallon of gas is: MPG=milesgallonsIn the formula MPG is miles-per-gallon, miles is the number of miles that can be driven on a full tank of gas, and gallons is the number of gallons that the tank holds. The application’s form should have TextBox controls that let the user enter the number of gallons of gas the tank holds and the number of miles the car can be driven on a full tank. When the Calculate MPG button is clicked, the application should display the number of miles that the car can be driven per gallon of gas. The form should also have a Clear button that clears the input and results, and an Exit button that ends the application. If the user fails to enter numeric values, display an appropriate error message and do not attempt to perform calculations.arrow_forwardIn physics, an object that is in motion is said to have kinetic energy. The following formula can be used to determine a moving object’s kinetic energy:KE = 1/2 mv2In the formula KE is the kinetic energy, m is the object’s mass in kilograms, and v is the object’s velocity in meters per second. Create an application that allows the user to enter an object’s mass and velocity and then displays the object’s kinetic energy. The application should have a method named KineticEnergy that accepts an object’s mass (in kilograms) and velocity (in meters per second) as arguments. The method should return the amount of kinetic energy that the object has.arrow_forward
- Paint Job Estimator A painting company has determined that for every 115 square feet of wall space, 1 gallon of paint and 8 hours of labor will be required.
