A student reporting on a project said that one of her seeds did not grow properly because it was planted upside down, so it got confused and tried to grow down. Should the teacher accept this explanation? Why or why not?

To determine:
Weather the explanation is accepted by the teacher or not. Also give reason.
Introduction:
The growth of a plant depends on the gravitropism and phototropism. Auxin is the plant hormone which is important for both gravitropism and phototropism. The seed is planted upside down having same auxin hormones for growth.
Explanation of Solution
Gravitropism is the process which is a directional response to gravity during the growth of a plant. Phototropism is a directional response of plant towards light during growth. Generally, phototropism is experienced by shoots and gravitropism is experienced by roots of plants.
Auxin is the hormone which is synthesized in the shoot apical meristem and travels from shoot to roots within the plants. These hormones help in the cell elongation during growth.
If the seed is placed upside down, then it does not affect the plant growth. The upper part of the seed experiences phototropism and it turns out into the shoot and the lower part experience gravitropism and extracts the nutrients from the soil and it turn out into the roots.
So, the reason given by the student does not justify improper growth of plant. The teacher should not accept this explanation because the growth of the plant is not related with its upside down plantation. Instead, it depends upon phototropism and gravitropism.
As the plant growth depends on sunlight, nutrient source and auxin hormones, so the explanation given by the student is not justified.

- You inject morpholino oligonucleotides that inhibit the translation of follistatin, chordin, and noggin (FCN) at the 1 cell stage of a frog embryo. What is the effect on neurulation in the resulting embryo? What is the phenotype, and why is the phenotype so similar? Is the phenotype going to be that there is a disruption of the formation of the neural tube for both of these because bottle cell formation is necessary for the neural plate to fold in forming the neural tube and Shroom3 is further needed to close the neural plate? So since both Plekhg5 and Shroom3 are used in forming the neural tube, injecting the mRNA will just lead to neural tube deformity?arrow_forward
