Summary Introduction

Apnea is a sleep disorder indicating the absence of airflow through the mouth or nose for a duration of 10 seconds or more during sleep. Sleep apnea is of three types, namely obstructive, central, and mixed sleep apnea. Analyzing and treating the disturbances in the sleep patterns of patients are considered as important goals. Nursing interventions planned to promote the quality of an individual’s sleep or rest are primarily focused on improving health. In general, patients need sufficient rest and sleep in order to maintain productive and active lifestyles. Sleep and rest promotion during the illness also play a critical role in the recovery of the patient. In order to promote the sleep of a hospitalized patient, the nurse should avoid disturbing the sleep of the patient for trivial tasks.
