Q1. How do you classify manufacturing processes? List the factors affecting the selecting of manufacturing process.
Manufacturing process can be divided by 5 main groups with respect to their physical action on raw materials
and some of them acquire a specific machine. They can be listed as:
1. Material deposition technologies, such as casting and sintering, or the new "rapid manufacturing" techniques
developed rapidly in the last ten years.
2. Joining techniques, in which riveting, friction stir welding (FSW), welding and assembly are classified.
3. Forming, where hot working techniques like forging and cold working techniques such as forming, spinning
and involute splines production are placed.
4. Material separation, including shearing, nibbling, punching, cutting by laser and cutting by high pressure
water or abrasive waterjet (AWJ).
5. And finally material removal processes, also known as machining processes.

Its output includes: 10 tons of processed product, the remaining becoming part of waste, four tons of the cans are stored for future use and the remainder are used to package the produce. About 3 percent of the cans used are damaged and recycled. The cartons are also used for packaging, except for 3 percent which become damaged and are incinerated with other paper wastes. of the miscellaneous materials, 75 percent become paper wastes that are incinerated, and the remainder are disposed of by the municipal collection agency. - What are the key components of a regular maintenance schedule for a complex manufacturing system?arrow_forwardA small electrical appliance is to be assembled on a single model assembly line. The line will be operated 250 days/year, 15 hours/day. The work content has been divided into work elements as defined in the following Table. Also given are the element times and precedence requirements. Annual production is to be 200,000 units. Repositioning time for each worker is 0.08 min. Determine (a) average hourly production rate, (b) cycle time, and (c) theoretical minimum number of workers required to meet annual production requirements. (d) Use all the line balancing algorithm (Largest Candidate Rule, Kilbridge and Wester Method, and Ranked Positional Weights Method) to balance the line. For your solution, determine (e) balance efficiency of the line.
