The relative stabilities of 1,2-disubstituted cyclobutanes and 1,3-disubstituted cyclobutanes are to be judged.

The trans are more stable than cis due to the more steric hindrance of cis.
Bulkier group acquires equatorial positions to form stable conformer due to steric factors.
