Question
Chapter 4, Problem 36P
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The given compounds are to be ranked in the increasing order of stability based on relative ring strain.
Concept introduction:
Ring strain is a type of instability that exists when bonds in a molecule form angles that are abnormal.
Ring strain is more in small ring like cyclopropanes and cyclobutanes.
The ring strain in cyclic compounds depends upon the size of alkyl groups acquired by the ring.
The strain of the compound increases when the stability of the compound decreases.
Cyclopentane is most stable than cyclopropanes and cyclobutanes due to less ring strain.
