Chapter 4, Problem 4.2A
Summary Introduction

To Match: The parts of the microscope with their appropriate description.

Introduction:

A microscope that uses the compound lens system that means two sets of lenses is known as a compound microscope. It helps in obtaining the higher magnification and a two-dimensional image of an object. The different parts of the microscope performed different functions. The coarse adjustment knob moves stage towards or away from an objective lens, whereas, fine adjustment knob moves stage slightly for sharp focus. The objective lens and eyepiece provide different magnifications. Mirrors in the microscope make an image to appear inverted and backward.

Students have asked these similar questions
write e, m, n, and b each letter as it would appear under the microscope.
Write the term that the phrase describes. 1. Large knob that moves the stage or objective lens a great distance. Used with scanning or low-power objective lenses only. 2. Flat platform beneath the objective lens on which the microscope slide is placed. 3. Removable lenses that you look through to observe the microscope slide. 4. Small knob that moves the stage or objective lens a very small distance and is used for precision focusing. 5. Extends from the arm and contains the ocular lenses and rotating nosepiece. 6. Lens that condenses light through the specimen and is located below the stage. 7. Light from specimen passes through these lenses first. These lenses are located in the rotating nosepiece. 8. Wide bottom part that supports the microscope. 9. Regulates the amount of light passing through the condenser. 10. Vertical portion that connects the base to the head.
A lab revolving around compound microscopes was conducted. Please answer the following questions (questions 1, 2, and 3).  If a specimen (placed on a slide) has little or no color, what level of light intensity should you use; should the intenisty of the light be high or low (choose)? Which objective should be in position before you start to focus the microscope? Which focus knob should you use first with this objective?
