The phosphoryl group transfer potential of a compound can be defined as the measure of the strength of attachment of a group to the molecule. It usually refers to the differences in the standard free energies of the molecule with and without the group. The compounds are categorized as high-energy if they have free energy of more than 25 kJ/mol (kilojoule per mole).
