Chapter 39, Problem 7TYU
Summary Introduction

Introduction: Gravitropism is defined as the growth of root towards gravity. Root detects gravity due to the settling of dense starch granules called statoliths. When a root is kept in horizontal orientation, dense and heavy statoliths will be gradually gathering towards the gravity. This leads to accumulation of calcium and auxin in the same portion. Auxin decreases the lengthening process of lower side cell wall. The upper side cell wall growth will be more and creates bending of cell towards gravity.
