It can cause widespread damage to areas of the body, including the joints, skin, heart, blood vessels, brain, kidneys, bones, and lungs. The people who have systemic lupus erythematosus develop some form of kidney inflammation, called lupus nephritis and this inflammation may can lead to kidney failure.
