To determine: The way by which transpiration is detrimental to plants.
Introduction: The loss of water vapor from the aerial plant parts by evaporation is called transpiration. The cuticle is very effective to decrease the loss of water by transpiration. However, only 1% to 3% of the water lost passes directly through the cuticle from a plant. The process of transpiration mainly occurs through the open stomata. Stomata pores provide opening for the loss of water vapor from the plants. The spongy mesophyll has a loose arrangement that offers a larger surface area in the leaf and the larger surface area helps in the evaporation of water.
