Chapter 34, Problem 2CQ
Summary Introduction
To explain: The reason for all the reptiles to not to be endothermic given that both the birds and mammals are endothermic.
Introduction: The endothermic organisms are those organisms which can regulate their body temperature. The presence of a closed circulatory system is must for heat generation. The heat is generated at some part of the body, and it is transferred to the whole body using blood vessels. As the blood flow rate is higher in organisms having a closed circulatory system hence the rate of heat transfer is higher in these organisms.

Which of the following is NOT a characteristic of all reptiles?
A Use lungs and skin for respiration
B Lay eggs on land
C Their body is covered with scales made of keratin
D Their skin secretes a mucous to keep it moist
Due to human activities more carbon dioxide (CO2) is dissolving into the air, the ocean takes up
more CO2 and becomes increasingly acidic. Increased ocean acidity makes it more difficult for
marine animals to produce their calcium-rich hard parts. Explain three types of invertebrates that are
likely to be adversely affected by an increase in ocean acidity.
