Interpretation:
The mechanism of the reaction between opsin and 11-cis retinal should be determined.
Concept introduction:
The retinal is a conjugate chromophore of the human eye. The retinal in normal conditions is present in the 11-cis-retinal configuration. In the presence of light, it is straightened and converted into the all-trans-retinal configuration. This opsin pushes the retina that triggers chemical signaling cascade andresults in the perception of the light by the brain.
