Amino acids are the fundamental units of proteins. There are a total of 22 amino acids out of which 2 are very rare. The basic structure of an amino acid is conserved as all amino acids contain an amino group, a hydrogen atom, a carboxyl group, and an alkyl group. The different properties of amino acids are by the virtue of different alkyl groups.
