Concept introduction:

There are 20 amino acids that are present in the human body. These amino acids can be arranged in any manner to make a small polymer that is called the peptide chain, or a larger polymer known as the protein.

A typical amino acid contains a side chain, besides the presence of the carboxyl group and the amino group. The side chains contain specific functional groups that confer a special property to the amino acid.
