Interpretation:
Whether residual stress is synonymous to orientation or not should be determined.
Concept introduction:
Orientation is the stretching of polymer molecules due to application of heat. Materials such as thermoplastics tend to regain its original intertwined state, if they are allowed to cool down for sufficient amount of time. In case this doesn't happen, the molecules are frozen before coming into their original form and thus experience some stress. This is said to be residual stress.
