Concept explainers
Consider the concentration of suspended solids from Exercise 3.17. Assume that reading across, then down, gives the data in time order. Construct and interpret a time-series plot.
An important quality characteristic of water is the concentration of suspended solid material (in ppm). Table 3E.5 contains 40 measurements on suspended solids for a certain lake. Construct a normal probability plot, a lognormal probability plot, and a Weibull probability plot for these data. Based on the plots, which distribution seems to be the best model for the concentration of suspended solids?
