Introduction:

The limbic system is an area of the brain involved with memory and emotion. It includes the hypothalamus, hippocampus, amygdala, thalamus, and cingulated gyrus. Hippocampus is present in the forebrain. It plays an essential role in the formation of declarative memories. Declarative memory is a form of long-term memory. It includes the collection of memories such as events, facts, figures, and locations. The amygdala plays an important role in the perception of emotions such as anger, fear, and sadness and also controls aggression. It is located in the temporal lobe of the brain. It is often overactive in people suffering from panic disorders.
